ONE Baptist Church embraces the same biblical distinctives for which our “Baptist” brothers and sisters through the centuries suffered and died. We believe it is our responsibility to hold and to uphold these distinctives with the same dogmatism and tenacity they exhibited.
• That SALVATION is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone—completely apart from works—whether they be to “make” us saved, or to “keep” us saved… and that SALVATION is a free gift to all who exercise their own free will in “calling upon the name of the Lord.” (Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 5:15; Rev. 22:17; Rom. 10:13)
• That BAPTISM by immersion is paramount in God’s plan—not because it is a part of salvation, but because it is an act of virtuous obedience in publicly demonstrating our private identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
• That the CHURCH is in no way the MEANS of salvation but is the humble assembling of believers together as the body of Christ to WORK OUT their salvation. We believe that every person who has been born again is a part of “the church, the body of Christ,” but dogmatically believe it is God’s intention that every believer function as an active part and identifiable member of a specific, local expression of the body of Christ. (Eph. 1:22-23; 1 Cor. 12:27)
Authoritative Word
ONE Baptist Church in the 21st Century receives the Word of God as did our brothers and sisters in the church of the Thessalonians in the 1st Century—that it is not simply the words of men, but that it is in truth, the very word and words of God. (1 Thess. 2:13) ONE Baptist Church also believes that God’s Word for English-speaking people has been preserved for us in the Authorized Version—and we look to it as our final authority. We believe that it is our responsibility as a church to unashamedly and expositorily preach the authoritative Word to perfect the saints.
Training Faithful Men and Women
ONE Baptist Church believes that the mission of the church is clear and that the tireless participation in this mission has been mandated by our Lord Jesus Christ to every person who names His Name. (Matt. 28:18-20; 1 Cor. 15:58) We believe that every person who is anticipating bodily resurrection WITH Christ is to be stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work OF Christ. We believe that this is the work He communicated to His disciples that He had been commissioned by His Father to “finish” (John 4:34) and is the work He communicated to His Father that He had “finished” in His prayer the night before He died. (John 17:4) The work He “finished” was very simply, the work of “making disciples.” Jesus clarified what the work of discipleship is by identifying three things He had done in “finishing the work” of making disciples. (John 17:6,8,18) We believe, therefore, that the biblical work of discipleship has three basic components: 1. WIN people to Christ. (John 17:6) 2. BUILD them up in their faith. (John 17:8) 3. SEND them into their world (sphere of influence) to be WINNERS and BUILDERS. (John 17:18) In the same way that individuals are trained to reproduce disciples, we believe the church corporately and collectively is to be trained to reproduce churches.
Sanctification of the Corporate Body and the Individual Members of the Body
ONE Baptist Church so recognizes that as the body of Christ, we represent Christ to the world—that it prioritizes both personal and corporate holiness. (1 Peter 1:15-16; 1 Thess. 4:3-7; 2 Cor. 7:1) It is such a priority, that even in this 21st Century world of tolerance and political correctness, it is willing to follow the biblical admonition and procedure for maintaining holiness in the body. (Gal. 6:1; Matt. 18:15-20; 1 Cor. 5:4-5) As the scripture admonishes, the procedure is carefully and prayerfully carried out in the spirit of meekness, and each step in the process is always with the goal of RESTORING the “overtaken” brother or sister to the joy of their fellowship with Christ and with those in His body.
